Our squash plants have been afflicted with powdery mildew. We may have planted them too close together. It may be because we had a problem with our irrigation system in their early stages of growth. We may just have gotten unlucky. A few more squashes may ripen this year (you can see that the newest leaves are green and healthy), but we'll have to learn from this an hope for the best next year.
